Oncosurgery is a surgical treatment for cancer. It is not just another surgery, but a highly specialized one that uses an array of sophisticated tools to treat tumors, including lasers, needles, and other devices.

  • Lasers: A laser beam is directed at the tumor and absorbed by it. The absorbed energy is converted into heat, which destroys the tumor tissue.
  • Needles: Needles are inserted into the tumor and moved around until they find an area of high concentration of cancer cells. The needles are then used to heat up the area until it becomes necrotic (dead).
  • Beams: A device similar to a drill releases beams of radiation onto the tumor site in order for surgeons to see exactly where each needle would need to go next.

Oncosurgery is used to treat both malignant and non-malignant tumors. It can also be used to remove cancers that have spread outside the body (metastatic), as well as to remove tumors that have already metastasized.
